Final Notice of Requirement and Resource Consents

Please note that the opening and closure date for submissions has not been finalised, further details will be added shortly.

A major step in a $12 million flood protection project has been taken after Greater Wellington Regional Councils' Flood Protection department formally sought permission for the work to begin.

GWRC has lodged a Notice of Requirement (NOR) and applied for resource consent to enable the construction of the Boulcott Hutt stopbank running between Connolly Street and the Hutt Golf Club's Northern boundary.

The lodging of the applications is a significant milestone toward the construction of the stopbank and associated works which are being undertaken to significantly improve flood protection for Hutt Residents, the Hutt Hospital and parts of the City Centre.

The works will involve:

  • Upgrading the existing Boulcott stopbank between Safeway storage and Boulcott Street;
  • constructing 1.1km of new stopbank between Bouclott Street and Fairway Drive;
  • replacing and upgrading existing stormwater pipes in the Boulcott area;
  • realigning Connolly Street over the upgraded stopbank.

These works are included in the Hutt River Floodplain Management Plan which was completed in 2001 and contains the overall strategy to mitigate the effects of flooding on the Hutt floodplain.

Discussion with landowners and the wider community on the Boulcott Hutt stopbank began in October 2006 and have continued until the lodgement of the applications.
