Beacon Hill Signal Station Upgrade

The construction of the new building followed a review of port and harbour safety in 2008 which recommended that the facility and its navigational and communications technology be upgraded.

The purpose built building was designed to withstand the harsh conditions sometimes experienced in it's exposed location, with winds in excess of 100kts having been recorded.

New Radar, VHF radio, and other communications and support equipment have been installed to bring the facility up to date and to meet current I.A.L.A. requirements.

The new Beacon Hill signal station building began operating in November 2010.
