Annual Report 2004/05

We're making good progress

Here is a summary of Greater Wellington Regional Council’s annual report for the year ending 30 June 2005. This is the second report against our ten-year Long-term Council Community Plan 2003-2013.

You can read about some of the highlights from each of our work areas and the summary financial results.

Greater Wellington’s vision is for a sustainable region. That means ensuring our environment is protected while meeting the economic, social and cultural needs of the community.

The ten elements we focus on to help achieve that goal are: biodiversity, water, air, energy, land, transport, waste, recreation & parks, safety & hazards, community.

In this summary we give you a snapshot of the work undertaken over the past year, and the progress we are making towards definite goals.

Three areas in particular have shown significant progress.

Launching the Growth Framework discussion document was an important step in our regional strategy for sustainable economic growth.

Securing extra funding from central government has been a boost for our public transport and roading networks.

Seeing the growing level of community involvement in caring for our environment is also very pleasing. Our Be the Difference campaign, just one example, has already signed up over 12,000 members.

The summary also contains essential information on Greater Wellington’s financial performance.
