Here is a summary of Greater Wellington Regional Council’s annual report for the year ending 30 June 2004. This is the first report against our ten-year Long-term Council Community Plan 2003-2013.
You can read about some of the highlights from each of our work areas and the summary financial results (these are attached documents). The full report is split into sections as attached documents.
We’ve had a successful year implementing the first year of our ten-year plan, making some good progress towards delivering results that matter to you, though there remained some areas, notably in transport, where we have not achieved the progress we would like.
The new Local Government Act required us to consult you about your desired outcomes and priorities. We did so two years ago, in preparation for our ten-year plan, adopted in June 2003. Your response confirmed our goal: working towards a sustainable region. This means ensuring our environment is protected while meeting the economic, cultural and social needs of the community. We identified the areas where we could best contribute towards that goal. The ten elements we have focussed on are:
Biodiversity; Water; Air; Energy; Land; Transport; Waste; Recreation and Parks; Safety and Hazards; and Community
We set ten-year targets for each element and set out our success measures. In the full report we record our progress towards those targets. The links between our activity areas and those ten elements are alsoshown.
The remainder of the summary looks at our six work areas and provides information on our financial performance. Some of that information has to be quite technical so we’ve highlighted some of the key facts.
