Forest360 are currently harvesting the Whakatikei Forest. The harvesting operation is expected to be completed in February 2021.
Logging truck access will be off SH1 through a neighbouring property arriving at the north western boundary of the forest and exiting via the same route. Campbell Mills Rd access to Akatarawa forest will be closed to all public access from Whareroa farm from July 2020, as private land buffeting the forest is closed due to harvesting operations.
Public access to Akatarawa Forest will remain available via the Perhams Rd entrance. Sections of Titi Rd west of Titi/Whakatikei Roads junction, and Hydro Valley Rd north of Hydro Valley Rd/Causeway junction will be closed to all recreation use due to the harvesting operation.
We have restrictions in place to keep everyone safe. Please abide by them as failure to follow the area restrictions could cause serious harm or death.
Specialised Tethering Equipment will be used on certain sections during harvesting. This will reduce the environmental impact to waterways by reducing the road and track infrastructure needed, and enable us to prepare and manage the extraction of trees across significant waterways.
Greater Wellington will provide updates via its website, social media, Weekly Forest Event Calendar regarding area restrictions and progress reports on the harvesting operation.
