Adapting bus services to changing needs
Bus services are a key part of greater Wellington's public transport network.
The region has over 100 bus routes services. In 2013/14 people across the region made almost 25 million bus trips. And last year 89 percent of bus passengers said they were satisfied with their journeys.
Changing demands within areas, such as new housing areas or increased school rolls, mean bus services need to be capable of responding to new needs. For example, in Upper Hutt parents pointed out that overcrowding on the afternoon services between Silverstream and Upper Hutt was affecting the ability of students to travel. We looked into the problem and added an extra bus to ease overcrowding.
Having a flexible bus service is an important part of improving our public transport network so services go where people want to go, at times they want to travel.
