Active transport forum
The active transport forum is made up of representatives from walking and cycling advocacy groups, central government agencies and all local and territorial authorities within the region. The forum meets quarterly. The next meeting is on Thursday 18 February 2010 at the Pavillion Room (opposite Hutt City Council) on Laings Road. Lower Hutt.

Strategic vision and role of Cycling and Walking
From The Wellington Regional Land Transport Strategy (RLTS) 2007 – 2016
- People will generally walk or cycle for short and medium length trips. Pedestrian and cycling networks will be convenient, safe and pleasant to use.
- Walking is the appropriate mode for short (2km and less) local trips and for connections between modes and at either end of longer journeys by other modes.
- The appropriate role for cycling is the safe and efficient movement of people between many origins and many destinations, over short to medium distances, as an alternative to private cars.
Objectives of the Forum
a) Provide opportunity for coordination, networking, information sharing & promoting best practice
b) Support collaborative projects, events and education/awareness activities
c) Inform members of upcoming opportunities to provide feedback on plans and policy documents with implications for cycling and walking Work towards the goals of the RLTS (i.e. pedestrian and cycling networks will be convenient, safe and pleasant to use).

Forum Frequency and Format
- Quarterly for 3 1/2 hours in February, May, August and November on the Thursday closest to the 20th of the month. This includes a 40min lunch and networking period at the start of the forum and a 10 minute afternoon tea break. The forum will close at 4pm.
- The venues will be rotated around the Hutt Valley, Porirua and Wellington
- Agency Reports will be requested three weeks prior to the next forum. These will be circulated two weeks prior. At the Forum the agency reports will be taken as read but any questions relating to them will be able to be discussed at the forum. Anyone is welcome to have specific items place on the agenda in the appropriate section.
- The Forum minutes will be circulated and also be placed on the GW website.
