Swimming

Cool off in the regional parks and forests. There is a great range of natural swimming areas to choose from:

  • Shallow pools suitable for young children at Battle Hill Farm Forest Park, Kaitoke Regional Park, Tunnel Gully Recreation Area or the Wainuiomata Recreation Area
  • Great beach swimming at Queen Elizabeth Park
  • Deeper swimming holes in the Hutt River, in Kaitoke Regional Park or on the Rimutaka Rail Trail

We do not recommend swimming south of Burdan's Gate in East Harbour Regional Park nor in Gollan's Stream near the Butterfly Creek picnic area.

Check out our bathing water quality monitoring pages to see where it's healthiest to swim.
