Paremata rabbit control planned

Posted on 17 April 2009

The Greater Wellington Regional Council will be doing a rabbit control operation on the land directly opposite the Paremata Railway Station over the railway lines from 27 April 2009. Greater Wellington is controlling rabbits to help protect the native plants that local volunteer groups will be planting this winter.

Greater Wellington Biosecurity Officer Gary Sue says that this land lies between the railway station and the sea and is known as the reclamation land.

“Carrot bait coated with the anticoagulant poison Pindone will be used. It will be dyed green to identify it as a poison and to deter birds from eating it. Trained operators will spread the bait by hand throughout the operational area,” Gary Sue says.

“Please do not enter this area until the warning signs have been removed.

“Dog owners should take care to keep their dogs out of this area at this time and not to let them scavenge rabbit carcases,” he says.
