Millwood Estate Community Group

Millwood Estate

Where can you find the group?

The care group was formed in 2003 by residents of the Millwood Estate with assistance from Upper Hutt Forest and Bird. The group is working on restoring a section of waste land jointly owned by the Millwood estate residents, adjacent to Hulls Creek between Silverstream Railway Station and the Millwood Estate. Follow the link to check out an aerial photo of the area.

Contact the Greater Wellington care group faciltator on 04 384 5708 or 0800 496 734.

Assistance for the project has also come from Upper Hutt Forest and Bird, corporate volunteer groups and Greater Wellington Environment staff.

What has the group done?

They have:

  • Prepared a restoration plan
  • Cleared weeds
  • Planted a variety of native plants including pittosporums, cabbage trees, toetoe and matai
  • Removed rubbish and railway debris from the site

Current activities

Some infill planting is planned and in addition to site preparation and weed control, a rabbit-proof fence is being used to keep rabbits away from the new plants as this has been a major source of plants dying in the past.
