Harbour Swimming

When you are harbour swimming you are very hard to see so wear a bright coloured swim cap, stay within the 5 knot area and have a regular look around for approaching boats.

Below are some of the distances between the 5 knot marker buoys off Oriental Bay and Lowry Bay. All these distances are approximate.

From about the middle of Freyberg beach out to the western end 5 knot buoy is 200 metres, from there to the next buoy is 300m, from there to the eastern end yellow buoy is another 260m. From the eastern 5 knot buoy to a position a bit north of Point Jerningham lighthouse is another 750m.

Distance from the band rotunda to the eastern 5 knot buoy is 750 metres and from the band rotunda to the centre buoy is about 290 metres. The distance between the two swim rafts is about 240 metres.

In Lowry Bay the distance between the two 5 knot buoys is 350 metres.

Good luck for your events!
