Going, going, gone!

Harbour hulks

James Cook, were scuttled in deep water in Cook Strait in December last year. Greater Wellington's Harbours Department disposed of the hulks that had been abandoned by their previous owners. The trawlers had twice slipped their moorings and posed a danger to legal navigation.

Prior to scuttling, Greater Wellington removed materials, rubbish and engine oils from the hulks that posed a threat to the marine environment, then waited for the right weather before towing the trawlers out into Cook Strait - the seas en route and in the dumping ground had to be calm.
