Firewood
The Whakatikei, Valley View, Hukinga, Maungakotukutuku, Akatarawa Saddle, and Puketiro blocks are exotic plantation forestry areas that are managed primarily for commercial purposes. Once each area has been logged, Greater Wellington may issue consents for individuals or merchants to collect firewood from designated areas. There is a cost of $20 per vehicle for the consent, and a $100 bond for gate keys (refunded on return of the keys). You will need to sign-off a Hazard Identification Sheet and the Health and Safety Guidelines.
A firewood consent application form can be downloaded from this page and faxed or delivered to our Upper Hutt office once completed. The application will not be valid until it is signed off by our administration team and payment is made in full. The application must be received by our office no later than 3pm on the Wednesday prior to the weekend you wish to enter the forest, while payment and collection of the key may be done later in the week.
Payment and collection of keys should be made from our Upper Hutt office - note that cash and cheque are acceptable, however we do not have EFTPOS facilities available.
Contact the Upper Hutt office for more information.
