Family fun at Battle Hill Farm Day
Pack a picnic and give the kids an opportunity to see how a traditional hill country farm works at Farm Day at Battle Hill this Sunday (1 March), part of Greater Wellington’s Regional Outdoors Programme.
The day’s highlights will include a shearing demonstration and a display of “yard work” including mustering stock with farm dogs. There’ll be pony rides for $4 each, opportunities to feed eels, and families will get to meet cattle, deer and friendly sheep that the kids can pat.
“We’re very luck to have a working farm so close to the urban environment. Although it’s only a short drive from the city, once you get there you’re deep in the countryside with traditional kiwi farm animals,” says Greater Wellington’s Amanda Cox, Manager – Parks and Design.
“Battle Hill Farm Forest Park has so much to offer, with its blend of farming, forestry and environmental restoration. I hope that families will come along and give kids a taste of the country life – it’ll be quite an education for the whole family!”
