Families caring for the planet - Upper Hutt meeting

Posted on 28 November 2005

Parents of Upper Hutt school pupils have a chance next week to find out what their children have been learning about keeping the environment healthy.

Students from Birchville, Oxford Crescent, St Brendans, St Josephs, Silverstream, Totara Park and Fergusson Intermediate schools have been taking part in Greater Wellington Regional Council’s Take Action for Water programme this year. They have tested the health of steams in and around Upper Hutt and studied the effects stormwater pollution has on creatures living in the streams.

Greater Wellington has organised an information evening at Fergusson Intermediate School on Monday 5 December, at 7.30 pm, so parents can talk to the staff running the programme and find out more about what their children have been learning.

Greater Wellington’s Be the Difference programme staff will also be there to talk about changes people can make at home that will be good for the environment. There will also be a practical demonstration of worm farming, recycling tips, and contacts for local community environmental projects.
