Running an event in the Akatarawa Forest

With 15,000 hectares of regenerating bush, hills, valleys, old logging roads and forest tracks, the Akatarawa Forest is very popular for a huge range of events. It is the only one of the regional parks and forests open to motorised recreation, and hosts events ranging from club four wheel drive "shiny" trips to motorcycle enduro events, four wheel drive training, Army and Police exercises and the annual Karapoti Classic.

If you would like to run an event in the Akatarawa Forest, please contact the park ranger to discuss your event/activity ideas and to obtain the relevant forms so that you can apply for a concession. Commercial activities require a full concession that is processed at GW's Wellington office. Most non-commercial activities require a streamlined concession that is processed by a park ranger.  In most cases you also require a health and safety plan.

You should allow at least 15 working days for your application to be processed.

For more information about applying for a concession please contact the Concessions Officer at the Wellington office:
