Caring for the coast
Conservation with the community
Planting at QEP wetland
With the help of the community, Greater Wellington is restoring areas of the coastal environment. There are three significant restoration programmes currently running at Queen Elizabeth Park.
Kahikatea forest remnant
Since 1990 community planting, weed control and monitoring has helped to protect and regenerate this last remnant of kahikatea forest south of the Manawatu.
Coastal dunes
Fewer weeds and more native plants are two goals for the only remaining relatively unmodified coastal dune on the Kapiti Coast.
Wetlands
Several restored wetlands near MacKays Crossing will provide a home for many insects, birds and small animals whose habitat has been very much degraded in the past.
Activities are held throughout the year and include propagation, planting and maintenance. If you would like to help out, please contact the park ranger.
