About submissions

A submission is the way Greater Wellington can take into account any views, comments or concerns about someone's resource consent application.

Submissions can:

  • support the application
  • oppose the application
  • support parts of the application and oppose other parts.

Submissions must:

  • state whether or not the submitters wishes to be heard (speak) at the hearing, if one is held.

Who can make a submission?

You can only submit on a resource consent application when:

  • Greater Wellington has served notice on you because you may be adversely affected, even though the effects of the proposed activity are minor.
  • Greater Wellington has advertised the application in the public notices section of the newspaper and placed a sign at the site because the effects of the proposed activity are more than minor.

Status of submissions

After the submission period closes, we send copies of any submissions received to the applicant and a summary of all submissions received to submitters. Greater Wellington must consider all relevant matters raised in submissions when making a decision on the application. Submitters who wish to be heard have the right to speak at a hearing in support of their submission and can appeal any decision made by Greater Wellington to the Environment Court.
