About affected parties
Are you affected?
An affected party is an individual, group of people or an organisation who are directly and adversely affected by the proposed activity needing resource consent. Greater Wellington makes the final decision about who qualifies as affected.
Affected parties may include: owners or occupiers of land and neighbours; downstream and adjoining property owners; community or environmental groups; local iwi; the Department of Conservation; Fish and Game Council; and local city or district councils.
Contact us if you think you should be considered as an affected party for a particular resource consent application.
What does being affected mean?
If you are an affected party, the applicant for a resource consent may ask you for your written approval before they send their application to Greater Wellington. If the applicant gets the written approval from everyone who isaffected and if the effects of the proposal are minor, then Greater Wellington may process the application as non-notified. Non-notified applications are not open for submissions.
If Greater Wellington identifiesanyone who is affectedand does not want to give their written approval, then Greater Wellington will process the application on a limited notified basis, provided the effects of the proposal are minor. All adversely affected parties – even those who have already given their written approval – can make a submission on a limited notified application.
